Heat.

Heat.  Hot. Summer.  Something those of us who live in snowy climes live for in January and February.  Off we go running, biking, hiking, camping.  And, we take our dogs along.  Well, sure they love the wind blowing through their little wet nostrils, smelling the smells.

The next couple weeks are supposed to be ridiculously hot here in Wisconsin.  Today it's actually supposed to be 100 degrees.  Last week I wore jeans and sweatshirts at the dog park.  Today, shorts and a tank top and we're not staying too long.  We may go to the lake afterwards for a little dunk.

I am "friends" with two humane societies on Facebook - Elmbrook Humane Society in Brookfield and HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society) in Waukesha.  They both posted the exact same thing on Facebook last night - a little something they swiped from MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission).

HEAT WARNING!
- Never leave pets unattended in your car - temps can quickly reach deadly levels.
- Anytime your pet is outside, make sure he or she has protection from heat and sun and plenty of fresh, cool water.
- Exercise your pets in the early morning or evening hours...and watch for hot asphalt which can burn sensitive pet paws! (via. Madacc)

I was doing some yardwork this weekend and my neighbor, who has a yellow lab named Sage, stopped by and said, "Hey, I gotta tell you what I did."

She went to the grocery store and before she went in noticed three big dogs in a car with the windows up.  I don't know how the weather was where you live but here it was hot and humid.  She went in and asked around about the car with the dogs.  Nobody "fessed" up.  So, she went back out to her car, waited fifteen minutes and called the cops.  When the owner finally came back out, there was, needless to say, some rather "heated" words from the woman and my neighbor and the cop.

C'mon friends, I know how much the doggies love to go in the car but when it's too hot, or too cold, leave them at home.  It doesn't take long for a car to get heated up in the summer sun.  Even less time with the windows up and three big dogs puffing in there.

On an unrelated note:  Carlos got another toadie last night.  He was in the dark, hidin' in the hostas and I heard him coughing and horking - yes, horking.  Came in all foamy on his beard.  Silly toad-mouth.
