Kathie, who adopted Midnight, who is now Lyla, sent me an email a while back (Kathie, I owe you an email - :) ). She reported that Lyla is doing great - hurray! She did a little mapquesting research and plugged in our little town and compared directions to two of the two dog parks in the general area. One is our favorite, Minooka, in Waukesha County. It's about 45 min. east of Oconomowoc. The other is the Bicentennial Park in Jefferson County and I've not driven it but distance wise, Kathie said it would be closer for us.
I've driven by and stopped a time or two and yes, it's a gorgeous facility. Even has a porta for us two-leggeds who need to...well, you know. It is entirely fenced. To read more about it, click here:
The thing is...I'm a cheapskate.
For a non-resident (or am I a resident? Is it Wisconsin resident or Jefferson County?), it is $5 a dog head. If I became a member, it would be $25 for the year for my first dog and $5 each thereafter.
For $25 at Minooka, as a resident of Wisconsin, which is what I'm guessing the Jefferson County is too, I can come and go as I please to this and any other Waukesha County Park. More woof for my buck.
So, we go back to Minooka. There's also an archery range and I have a feeling that one of these times when we go, Scott will take along his bow and arrows and say, "Pick me up when you're done."
Today we bumped into Chance's little girl that he met last time we were there. They were on their way out as we arrived so they didn't have a long time to play. But he made other friends and it's really starting to help build his confidence.
His stamina is improving and he's rebuilding and toning muscles that had to be kept under wraps while he healed from the heartworm buggies. He even re-developed his Superman muscles. Oh, those are the ones that allow the dog to fly....What, you don't believe me?? Ok, here's a pic:

Ok, you caught me. Just a little Photoshop funny. Here are the originals....he was laying on the floor with his belly and feet against the wall.
He was totally fine with the Visla, the Malamute/Shepherd Mix with the cool tail, the adorable Wheaton Terrier girl, and the other girl labs. There was even a chocolate labby male there and even tho he outweighed our boy by twenty or so pounds, he still was ok with that.
The owner of the Wheaton Pup discovered an old scar on Chancey's nose which got us all wondering that perhaps there was some sort of fight involved in his fluffy past and...who knows. Tell you the truth, I noticed the scratch but I never thought much more about it. Sometimes their little nosies can get scratched just running through the tall grass.
Furever family, I just know you're out there reading about our boy. He's such a great dog. He does need an experienced firm hand that says, "I, not you, am the leader of this pack." You'll need to re-enforce that every now and again for a while but this dog will love you with his whole heart, he is eager to learn and willing, willing to please. He is cuddly and friendly with every human that he sees. Big, small, man, woman or child - he loves them all! Most of all though, he does love men. I think kids come in second and us "meany" mom types come in after that. LOL! (Oh, and have I mentioned lately that he does not shed - but that doesn't mean exactly that he's hypoallergenic.)
So I'll wrap up today with some of the snaps I took while we were there. Our boy, having a great time making new friends and now, blessedly, crashed on the floor beside my chair.
The last picture is of a little kid who was whiny at the park - yikes! So I told her to go sit down on the rock. She looked so adorable on the rock, I took her picture. Little did I know, until I got home, that Chancey boy was in the background, just doin' his favorite dog park activity - Where does he store all that stuff anyway??
Thank you for reading. Please pass this along to you doggie lovin' friends - let's find our pal a home before he needs his next haircut.
One more time 'cuz it's fun....Flying Fluffy at Grade Lodge!!
