Waa - What a Weekend!!

So first of all - the Great Lakes Pet Expo! For those of you who were there, was that not crazy?? So many people. I liked the fact that every man, woman and child who passed our booth and got licked or jumped on stopped to pet the dogs. No one, I mean no one, flipped out that a dog touched them. Ya' gotta love dog people.

We saw a lot of familiar faces. Mia's Mom and Dad and kids were there. She had a nail appointment so she couldn't come along but her family bought her a really cool reflective color in HOT SHOCKING PINK! Mia's mom said it looked really cool when she hit it with a flashlight at 15 feet. I saw Kristin's step-mom too! I think she was really interested in bringing home our pal Chance but he's not quite ready to go home with someone who has another dog.
I saw a woman that worked with my dad (and me) about 20+ years ago. Saw my college roommate and her friend who just picked up a dog from one of the local animal shelters and it looked to me like he found some nice little treats for little Smokey! And while it was wonderful to see our friends again, the one person we were most looking forward to seeing was Patti, our Mocha's foster Mom.

She works with a lab rescue organization. Actually, I think she was one of the founding members! So Fluffy Dog Lovers, I do love my Fluffy Dog and will always have a special place in my heart for our first fluffy Jack - xxxooo - but I gotta tell ya, I do love those labradors. It was really hard not to look at them and wonder exactly how much chaos would ensue if I had three labs in the house full time.
The (<- link) Labrador Connection is the name of Patti's Organization.

And although I love my labradors and my fluffy dogs too, I seem to have developed some sort of strange affection for the chihuhuas. I held one at the chihuahua rescue booth that was kitty corner from ours. Apparently she had been bred by a backyard breeder who's goal it was to create the smallest, "blue" (the new brown) dogs. This two year old dog weighed about five pounds and she was hairless. Her owner said that her hair was just starting to grow in around her neck.

Before we left for the Expo on Saturday, we experienced a really bad smell in the house. No, it wasn't a dead mouse. Worse! It was our furnace! Even though Scott was playing junior apprentice HVAC guy, he couldn't get it to go. We've been without heat since Saturday morning. It is 321pm on Monday as I type. If the weather had been any colder than it was we would have called the Furnace guy but I just can't stomach the fee he would have gotten coming out on a Saturday - Yikes!

Instead of sitting around the house freezing we took the the wilds and went hiking at Minooka Park in Waukesha. If you've not been there it is at Racine Ave. and Sunset - basically. They have a BIG dog area and a little dog area. Scott had never been there so he was blown away. Of course the kids, dogs and I had been there (once) so it was all old hat to us - lol.

We saw dogs of every color, size and description. I think that the hand's down favorite for us was the Giant Schnauzers. Oh-mi-Gosh!! The Newf was also very cool and I've never seen so many chocolate labs all in one place. Very awesome. There were a couple little dogs who came with their owners to the big dog area. Eek! Probably not the wisest thing that their owners could have done unless their aim was to freak out their pug because he was being chase by a 100 pound Labradoodle-dude. Not my problem when he wakes up with puppy nightmares at 300am.

The furnace guy is here now - been here for about 2 hours or so. He had to run back to the shop to pick up a super-destroyed, burnt tube part and is installing it as I type. It is also still 52 degrees downstairs and probably not much more up. I have my coat on. I've been wearing my hat in the house the past two days but that was just with us in the house - lol. Wouldn't want to look dorky in front of a stranger. Yeah, right.

So a very busy weekend. I guess there was some sort of super sporting event that happened last night as well and I heard that the usual winners won their sixth in a row. We went to be early because it was too cold in here to sit around and watch TV.

Well, the furnace guy just left and we've got heat - HOORAY! I'm not takin' off my coat until I see the thermo downstairs read 60, maybe even 65.

Here's to spring! Soon!

Sounds like you had fun at the expo. Larry and I were there earlier and I am so bummed that I missed you.

A chihuaha (did I spell that right?)!?!?!? One never ceases to amaze me. Must re-read that friendship handbook. Altho they are wonderful little dogs, theyjust um seem, not in your 'size' bracket for animals! LOL!

I did get to see some Newfs at the expo, which is a dog I've always wanted. I just got the 'look' from my spouse. Sigh, maybe I will just wait for a pony.

Glad to hear you have heat-a chihuhau (whatever) is not much to warm up with!
