So I'm off on Tuesdays (and Fridays, if anyone cares) so I take Kiera to school. Sometimes, when its nice we ride bikes but today we drove. Kiera was being her usual pokey self so I went out to the garage and opened the van's sliding rear door for the dogs. Chance jumped in first and sat on the back seat. Usually he rides co-pilot.
After I got in the car and after what seemed like an eternity - parents. I can hear you nodding - Kiera finally came out. She jumped in and said, "Where's Chance?"
I put everyone in. We were in the garage with the door closed. Where did he go?
He was in the back back of the van - behind the seat. I'm not sure what he was doing back there but he rode back there until I got back from dropping Kiera off at school. Strange dog.
He's also started rolling on his back which is something that dogs do - I know. But to this point he hadn't done that yet. But he sure looked happy doing it.
He's also getting better about behaving with Mocha. She was sitting on my lap (we have a very relaxed dog on the furniture policy here at Grade Lodge) in the big Lazy Boy Recliner when seemingly out of nowhere Chancey Shandy jumped up and laid right down next to her.
Needless to say we, Mocha and I, were very surprised but thankful none-the-less.
Its been an interesting ride with you Chance. Sometimes, not so fun. Othertimes, a complete riot. You haven't made our life dull at all.
Scott and I were talking on Sunday about the things that are hardest for us with fostering. It may surprise you that neither one of us said that giving the dog up was the hard part. For Scott, it is keeping in mind that this dog has been thru soooo much - most of it we have no clue about - Maintaining calm patience when you really want to wring his neck (that goes for our dogs and occasionally children as well). For me the tough part is watching walk out my front door for that last time, saying goodbye, but knowing that he's going to be going to the best possible place for him. Ugh, I'm getting weepy just thinking about it.
I am excited too! Because there is always going to be another dog who needs a temporary home...
See you soon!
